This summer, fashion seems determined to convince us that everyone is spending August somewhere along the Mediterranean—even when the closest thing to a European vacation is an iced coffee on the walk to work. White cotton dresses, striped maxis, tiny shorts, breezy button-downs, and oversized sunglasses have become the unofficial uniform of the season. The look is polished but relaxed, slightly romantic, and carefully styled to appear as though very little thought went into it.
The appeal is not really about copying what women wear in Italy, France, or Spain. It is about dressing for the version of summer we wish we were having: long lunches, late dinners, beachside afternoons, and nowhere urgent to be.
